A BBC journalist was detained in North Korea



















A BBC journalist was detained in North Korea, while heading to the airport. Correspondent Rupert Wingfield-Hayes was interrogated for several hours by North Korean authorities, reports BBC News.

BBC correspondent was detained while heading to the airport with Mary Byrne producer and cameraman Matthew Goddard. Subsequently, the journalist was heard from the North Koreans for eight hours before the authorities force him to sign a written statement.

BBC team has traveled to North Korea before the communist party congress to accompany the delegation of Nobel Prize winners, who conducted a research trip.


Meanwhile, the three BBC employees were released and are transported to the airport in Pyongyang to repatriate.
The BBC's Stephen Evans, who is still in Pyongyang, argued that the state leadership would have been unhappy with detained journalist reports that drew attention on issues of life less pleasant in the capital.
