Zika virus infection can be diagnosed most efficiently by urinalysis

Zika virus diagnosis through analysis of urine is more efficient than through a blood test, which could facilitate the detection, according to data released Tuesday by the US health authorities, news agency EFE.
According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention in the USA (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, CDC) in many patients was not possible to detect traces of the virus in blood samples one week after contracting the disease.
Instead, the analysis of urine can find traces of the virus after two weeks of presenting symptoms.
However, the CDC recommended to use both analyzes to detect the presence of the virus, depending on when the first symptoms have been felt.
Zika virus is transmitted primarily by Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, but it has proved that it can be transmitted through bodily fluids, such as urine, blood, semen, amniotic fluid and saliva.
Zika virus does not normally cause a deadly disease, but its presence in pregnant women has been associated with the occurrence of microcephaly in neonates.
