The crater discovered in Siberia last week was explored

yamal crater siberia
The news that giant crater appeared out of nowhere in Siberia toured the world, giving rise to many theories, some more bizarre than others, the causes which have caused. Now scientists have conducted an expedition huge hole in the ground and so the first images appeared online of what is out there.

The huge pit formed in Siberian Yamal peninsula, the name means "end of the world" was explored by specialists from the "Institute of the Earth Cryosphere".
The images can be seen walls that resemble a lunar landscape, walls that ice melts and drips. The crater has a depth of about 70 meters, and the bottom is a lake.

The huge hole was recently discovered immediately after the news spread in the media, theories of its formation began to appear. While some have blamed global warming or that it is the result of a meteorite impact with Earth, others have said that is where a crashed alien ship.

Researchers say that the phenomenon would have natural causes. More specifically, the deep ground ice melted and could not sustain the earth from above. In addition, the collapse could have been amplified by the release of gas from the soil, which could have caused such an explosion.

Since the discovery of the crater, scientists have found similar appearance of two new holes, one in the same region, Yamal and another hundreds of miles away in Taymyria peninsula. Researchers took samples of soil and ice to analyze them and can say with certainty how these craters were formed.

In Philippines was discovered a plant that eats metal

plant eating metals
Researchers from the Philippines have made a remarkable discovery. They have found on an island in the country a plant that can consume large amounts of metal without having to suffer because of it. The species in question is called Rinor niccolifera. It can be used to clean polluted soil and to gather metal commercially viable. It is one of the 450 known plant as  hiperacumulators.

Scientists know 300,000 vascular plants that can absorb significant amounts of metals through their roots. Professor Edwino Fernando (University of the Philippines), who led the study, said Rinor niccolifera has the ability to absorb an amount of 1,000 times higher compared to the nickel that can be taken from any other plant.

"The new species was discovered in the western part of the island of Luzon in the Philippines, an area known for its rich soil heavy metals," reads the press release given by Edwino Fernando, Marilyn Quimado and their research team. The new plant can remove a huge amount of soil metals in polluted ecosystems. It may be used in the mining industry. Because of the ability to absorb a lot nickel species that can be harvested for the extraction of metal absorbed by it.

What happened to the Colosseum in Rome after the fall of Roman Empire?

What happened with Colosseum in Rome
Built in 72 AD, the famous edifice remained in history as a place associated with bloody shows they love so much Romans: battles participating gladiators and animals. But what happened to the Colosseum after the fall of the Roman Empire? Recently, archaeologists have conducted excavations within the premises found with surprise that for many centuries it was used simply as a kind of "block of flats".

Starting ninth century until 1349, when it was damaged by a strong earthquake, the Colosseum was basically a residential complex with apartments for rent. Archaeologists have discovered the exhaust pipe tile, pottery shards, traces of the existence of sheds and workshops, and the foundation of a wall surrounding one of the properties.

The monks of the monastery of Santa Maria Nova, located nearby, had the administration building for a while, and would have to rent different places inside her to serve as housing, believe the researchers. During this period, the space inside the amphitheater would have been a huge common courtyard with crowded people, animals and household things.

In the sixteenth century, Pope Sixtus IV attempted to turn the Colosseum into a wool processing plant, but the project did not last long. Currently Colosseum undergoing in a restoration process under a three-year project worth 33 million USD.

It was found the world's most frightening sea creature

oarfish sea monster
Last year, an extremely rare fish, large, was found on a beach in California, and scientists declared it the longest bony fish in the world. Instructors at Catalina Marine Institute have found housing fish named oarfish. Animal, with a length of 5 meters, represented a major breakthrough for researchers. "I've never seen a fish that big. Recent oarfish that I saw was 3 meters," said Mark Waddington, captain of the ship.

The fish would have died of natural causes and his body was found almost perfectly intact. Most likely, the fish had died shortly before.

Oarfish is the longest known vertebrate fish in the world, although they are rare occasions when he is seen alive. In June, researchers have uncovered a video that show a healthy oarfish that swim in the Gulf of Mexico, the first time he was filmed in its natural habitat.

Oarfish swim at depths of between 400 and 1,000 meters and very rarely comes to the surface. The creature would be inspired seafaring horror stories where people were taken from the vessels by creatures tens of meters long.

During a press conference, the most longegiv employee of CIMI said: "For 32 years since I am here I have never seen anything like it." It took 15 people for that fish to be removed from the water and went to the beach. It looks like a giant 7 meters long fish was discovered by officers of the navy in 1996, also in California, near San Diego.

A new theory that explains how did Sahara became desert

Sahara desert
Sahara has become the largest desert on the planet 2,700 years ago, after a very slow transformation, according to a study that call into question a theory issued in 2000, according to which it was sudden desertification, and has been published in the journal Science.

6,000 years ago, the Sahara was very green, covered with trees, savannahs and many lakes. Region, which is larger than Australia was inhabited by people, say the authors. Most of the physical clues that could provide information about the evolution of geographic Sahara disappeared. However, studying the layers of sediment collected from the bottom of one of the largest lakes that exist in Sahara, Yoa, located in a region of northern Chad, the team of European researchers, Canadians and Americans could reconstruct the history of the region in the last 6,000 years. Experts have analyzed sediments, geochemical tests were conducted and examined biomarkers, such as pollen from plants that could be found all over the area to settle before dessert. Researchers analyzed the remains of aquatic organisms.

The results contradict the theory that the Sahara became a desert 5,500 years ago, in a few centuries, marking the end of the African humid period when was a regular seasonal rainfall region, explained Stefan Kröpelin, a geologist at the Institute of Prehistoric Archaeology at the University of Cologne, Germany, lead author of the study. In 2000, analysis of sediments obtained from drilling conducted off the coast of western Mauritania indicated a sharp increase in the amount of dust carried by winds blowing outward Saharan Africa, according to a study by Peter deMenocal from Columbia University, New York.

Data collected from Lake Yoa shows the opposite, namely that the transition was a gradual climatic said Kröpelin. Abundant tropical vegetation gradually decreased, then disappeared grass ground cover, then install the desert, he explained. The German geologist Peter challenge deMenocal data collected, but believes that it was not interpreted correctly. Lake Yoa, with a depth of 24 meters, continue to be supplied with water from underground tanks that were filled during wet Sahara, which began about 15,000 years ago. Water reserves are rich enough to replace the six meters of water lost by evaporation from the lake annually, say researchers who add that the annual rainfall does not exceed a few millimeters per sqm. Sahara desertification resulted in the expulsion of the southern populations of North Africa and could be responsible for arrival of Egyptian civilization of the Pharaohs, researchers say.

A new invention makes mice become transparent

transparent mouse
Researchers at the California Institute of Technology, led by Viviana Gradinaru have developed, for the first time, a technique that can make a mouse body transparent. The method will facilitate research in biology and medicine, can be used, for example, to study the structure of the nervous system or how cancer spreads in the body.

Although there are ways to make transparent the various organs removed from the body, is the first time that researchers manage to make transparent the whole body of an animal, said Viviana Gradinaru, lead investigator and author of the article on the subject published in the scientific journal Cell.

Animals were euthanized, and the skin was removed and the rest of the body was treated with certain chemicals that make muscles and internal organs of mice - no bones - become transparent. Some of the substances used dissolve fat, others form a network at the microscopic level that maintains the position of the tissues in the body.

It takes about a week to establish such a transparent mouse. Researchers have created transparent rats whose production takes about two weeks because of higher waist. Subsequently, various dyes may be used to highlight specific laboratory anatomical details.
